Swift will be released under a permissive licence, which has literally no strings attached - you can use the software however you like. Unlike the GPL, which has a very explicit string attached.



If Apple holds any patent regarding Swift, there will be lots of strings attached. You just won't see those in the license itself.


Apples open source licence specifically mentions patent grants. Why would you assume they won't do the same (or use that exact licence) for swift?
