I'm not sure if this article is saying people with more CS theory and math do better than people with more work experience, or if it's saying it's hard for everyone to get hired.
This article is saying that web development (using frameworks a la Rails) might be enough to get you a job today, but as soon as the web-trend passes other skills will become needed. Recruiters are becoming more and more stupid (not in the derogatory sense, they just do pattern matching between job offers and what's written on candidates' resumes).
This article is a reminder that it's never too soon to start adding different skills to your arsenal.
