Uh, 'Mistake' is a really generous word here.
Cruise isn't some amateur one-man startup. It's a multi-billion dollars company with tons of lawyers, advisors, resources, support from GM, etc. It was a deliberate act full-stop. The only 'mistake' they made was probably thinking they could get away with it.
