I've got a mac mini connected to the TV through an HDMI cable. This can stream Youtube, Amazon Prime, etc.

I've also got a Blu-Ray player that I got open box for $40. I don't use internet streaming on it much because all the same services are easier to use on a computer.

I love the Mac Mini in every way except for Apple's bullheadedness -- I'm behind a slow DSL line, so the "download everything" ideology means waiting overnight. If the Mini had a Blu-Ray drive, it would dominate in every way.

The Apple TV streams. I don't know why none of Apple's other options do (iTunes on a Mac, or an iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch), but I assumed it might be a studio restriction?

Do you control the Mac Mini with an Apple Remote, or with a keyboard?

This (http://www.hekseskudd.com/) is what I use. It is a bit spendy, but they never spill and my kids (4) haven't broken it yet.

That remote is the worst thing Apple makes, imo.

keyboard

I'm running XBMC on a windows box, but I only watch movie trailers from time to time.

I use the same kind of system, however I also have a tv card and torrents set up on the same machine for a more complete media solution.

XBMC on MacOS X and Ubuntu. Works pretty well.

Anyone use a "smart TV" or whatever the internet enabled TVs are called?

I don't currently stream to my TV in a sensible manner and I can't work out whether an Apple TV + a TV will be worth the extra cost over a TV with streaming built in?

I have a Samsung Smart TV with a full blown suite of mediocre "apps". Some notably good apps are Netflix, Pandora, and ESPN Score Center.

This is primarily how I access Internet television.

You can get a look at their App Store here: http://www.samsung.com/us/appstore.

There's a developer SDK I'd like to crack open, as it seems like it could be fun to build something for 46" mouseless screen.

You could experiment with an internet-enabled Blu-ray player which is about the same thing. LG among other manufacturers make them. If it's not enough, you can still use the player.

I use ps3 media server on my desktop and then use either my ps3 or google tv (two different tv's) with their built in media players to read from ps3 media server.

Where's WD HDTV Live?

It is one of the best streaming boxes since it plays almost anything without problems. Can't say that about Roku or Apple TV.

Does it play Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Video? And can you subscribe to other premium content like MLB.tv, NHL Gamecenter or NBA GameTime?

If not, it's not in the same class, but if it does, I'll have to look into it.

They've added MLB.tv to the WD Live this year so there has to be some sort of SDK for it.

I use an HDMI splitter and have my second display connected directly to an input on my TV.

I have a Google TV box (Logitech Revue). Works really well for me.

Playstation 3 for the last 6 years, never served me wrong.

Xbox 360 (mostly for Netflix and YouTube)

Windows 7 Ultimate PC.

XBOX
