I heard from a friend that he was let go as a part of a mass layoff at Headspace today, but I can't find anything about it online. Does anyone have the inside scoop?
"Today we're sharing several important changes that will shape the future of Headspace, including a significant restructure of our organization and a reduction of our workforce by ~15%. Employees affected by the reduction will be notified in the next few hours via a 1:1 conversation with their leader. If you are among the employees impacted, you will have already received a calendar invite for a priority sync. My goal with this email is to share how we got to this decision, to take accountability for the decisions we've made, and to outline what's ahead."
"I want to take full accountability for where we are and give you some background on how we got here. While we felt we were planning conservatively for 2023 to enable a path to profitability in 2024, it's clear that we underestimated just how much the current economic environment would affect buying behaviors across our small and medium business (SMB) and consumer channels. The truth is, we let optimism get the best of us, and as our CEO,I didn't make all the hard calls last December that I needed to make. In light of the difficult capital markets, we remain committed to being cash-flow positive in 2024 so that we aren't reliant on outside funding to serve our members.
Because we missed on our first half of the year bookings plan, we now need to make significant changes to ensure we still become profitable, even in a downside scenario."
Mostly whether there was any official announcement, what the reason for the layoffs was. Were you a part of it? Was this a long time coming or a surprise? It seemed sudden to me.
No announcement, no one saw it coming and the ones who knew were tight lipped. The care team had the biggest impact (therapists, coaches, management). They wiped out 2 specialty programs. The won't say why the ones laid off were chosen to be let go over others. Complete surprise, they very recently said there isn't a plan for cuts. It did not go by seniority or by performance, felt like names were picked out of a hat.
