Japan has introduced a citizen's unique identification number, which the government bureaucrats are trying to sell to populous euphemistically as "My Number".

So the employment, pensions, health insurance, banking, assets, tax, driver licenses, car registrations, residence records, phone registration, etc., will in future ultimately be linked to that id number.

What not to love about a smoothly working society? Some bureaucrats in the planning department have sweet dreams.

Several European counties have this as well. In Denmark we call it “CPR” - central person register.
