RSS is not supposed to be real time. Or we will turn to the fire hose of twitter.

I am also curious on how it is done. There is mentioning of a dynamically adjusted poll interval; but the feeds of a blog is usually updated in a none statistically stationary manner; I don't see how it can be real time and not hugely wasteful at the same time.
