Agreed. Here in the UK, for any journey over a couple of hundred miles it is cheaper to fly. I used to regularly travel from London to Nottingham by train, which cost 2-3x as much as it would have to fly to Amsterdam or Paris.
On the other hand, I'll happily pay the extra cash for Eurostar as it just saves so much hassle either end. But I'm fortunate enough to be able to do that; if I was on a shoestring then easyJet all the way.
