I'm sure Apple told Intel to hold the press release or they would sue them for breach. I can't really blame Apple hear; Qualcomm can be nasty and Apple wasn't wrong to not give up a huge advantage.

I doubt Qualcomm was unaware. Lots of rumours spread within an industry but never make it out onto the internet.
