The latest dungeon crawler Carl book comes out on Tuesday. That’s a fun series.

I’m also reading the new James SA Corey series (the expanse). The first one is called “the mercy of gods”.

I also received the recommendation of “what moves the dead” but I haven’t read it yet.

Space is really, really, really big. There could be a trillion intelligent species of our level of development broadcasting in English on radio channels we use and we wouldn’t hear them because space-time is big.

We’ve been listening for radio signals for what, 70 years? Do a bit of math. Also calculate how strong a radio signal would need to be to reach us from 70 light years away.

Now look up how big the galaxy is. Now look up how many galaxies there are and how far away they are.

Except stability

Pretty sure the Ukraine war would end immediately if Russia withdrew from Ukraine and stopped launching rockets.

That will be a huge betrayal of all pro-Russian people in the "new regions of Russia". It will be the end of popular support Putin enjoyed over all the years of his rule.

Withdrawing from Kherson was hugely unpopular measure and over hundred of thousand of pro-Russian civilians left Kherson[0] along with Russian army because they were terrified of what the revenge of Ukrainian regime would be.

Isn’t intel building the fab?

They did, they even published publicly.

Analysis have been consistent for years: Iran can close the strait of Hormuz indefinitely with minimal effort.

Shippers and their insurers are extremely risk averse. A single dude with a shoulder mounted rocket anywhere in on the coastline is enough to keep ships out.

I am in no way an expert and I am deeply alarmed.

You should be.

Evolution requires variation for any species to continue. Even diseases like diabetes, dementia, sickle cell, and cystic fibrosis have evolutionary advantages which have helped our species survive in the past.

These aren't defects. They're solutions evolution has baked into our genes to overcome selective pressures. There's no telling what will happen when we demand that those advantages be removed.

It’s like the Star Trek thing. Every captain needs his own catchphrase.

Doesn’t the weakened dollar make our goods more affordable and our imports more expensive? Far be it for me to defend anyone in power, but isn’t that what he wanted?

I wonder what story farmers are telling themselves about why this is happening.
