> A member, officer, or employee of the __Senate__ shall not receive any compensation, nor shall he permit any compensation to accrue to his beneficial interest from any source, the receipt or accrual of which would occur by virtue of influence improperly exerted from his position as a member, officer, or employee.

Emphasis mine. This does not cover the judicial or executive branch

Nor even the House of Representatives.

The STOCK Act mostly only had the effect of creating some inconveniences for lawmakers (e.g., their families could still trade based on their guidance), and even that was only the case for a year as Senator Reid's House bill S.716 effectively gutted the STOCK Act and restored the status quo, was passed by unanimous consent after 14 seconds of discussion, and was signed into law by President Obama: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STOCK_Act#Amendment

It's a tech demo.

Ok, so it's a tech demo. That doesn't change that it looks bad and uses an unreasonable amount of resources to do its thing. Their tech demo has shown that the tech sucks.

Does that make it above criticism? It looks uncanny.

For a (Snapchat?) filter!

When you post on a public forum defending child pornography, it's maybe a good time to take a step back and evaluate your life.

What a vile accusation for you to make based on zero substance. Perhaps it is you who needs to take a step back and evaluate your life.

What are saying? Spell it out for us.

This is Twitter science, not reality.

I don't know what that's supposed to mean, but attribution of IQ to countries is not a thing.

We'll worry about that when the Presidency and both houses of Congress are controlled by the Communist Party

If you're not afraid of DIY and it looking (much) uglier than these lamps, you can buy extremely bright "cob lights" and make something yourself: https://meaningness.com/sad-light-lumens

Not even DIY, the 600W 92000 lm "UFO lamp" is just 170€: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DD4J7GMC/?tag=meaningness-20&th=...

Basically a hanging version of the "Brighter" lamp.

It takes an act of Congress to change the name. Trump just made one of his dictatorial proclamations.

It was originally named the department of war, and changing it to defence was just newspeak anyway.

Of all the things trump has done, I actually like this one. At least he’s being honest about his intentions for what this department does.

I'm of two minds on this. As you say, renaming from War to Defense was a lie to tell Americans a more palatable story. However, renaming from Defense to War is actually the same thing in the current political context but for populace with different values. It is honest in a way but that was not the intention, nor is it the effective result. It's just a different lie.

I mean, they’re doing their best to start new wars right now, so I’d say it’s not a lie at all.

That's irrelevant. the point is that Congress is the body with authority to decide, not the executive branch.

it's not just newspeak though. names matter. an advanced civilization, which USA being the richest country on Earth is, should not strive to get into offensive wars...

Richest, clearly.

Advanced? No free healthcare, no paid maternity leave, two weeks paid leave, no free higher education, etc etc.

i dislike every action by a president that blatantly breaks the law, and yes that includes ignoring the tiktok ban

That's a pretty well-solved problem at this point, if you want to do it yourself. You'll want some kind of NeRF tool and a way to calculate the camera poses of the photos you took. COLMAP is the tool most people use for the latter.

I'd recommend trying Instant Neural Graphics Primitives (https://github.com/NVlabs/instant-ngp) from NVIDIA. It's a couple years old, so not state-of-the-art, but it runs on just about anything and is extremely fast.

Sweet, thank you for sharing. In my case, I need an api I can call cause i only have a mac air which is essentially worthless for development lol. Also I am bootstrapping a startup and one of the features is essentially turning rooms into 3d space. I know theres matterport 3d and some others but still looking for something simple where i could pay a couple cents per api call with x amount of images. does that make sense?

NVIDIA has been selling automotive-specific silicon for a decade.

Statistics are not theft. Judges have written over and over again that training a neural network (which is just fitting a high-dimensional function to a dataset) is transformative and therefore fair use. Putting it another way, me summarizing a MLB baseball game by saying the Cubs lost 7-0 does not infringe on MLB's ownership of the copyright of the filmed game.

People claiming that backpropagation "steals" your material don't understand math or copyright.

You can hate generative tools all you want -- opinions are free -- but you're fundamentally wrong about the legality or morality at play.

LLMs sometimes spit out large chunks of text from it's training data almost verbatim.
