It is comical. Exchanging one set of US overlords for another. I suppose it is possible to use a degoogled android but most people won't be doing that.

Not even that. Most banking apps have a requirement that android is "certified" by google, ex. They won't run on GrapheneOS

Yep, I'm using Murena, a fork of Lineage OS but have to have a google account to use my banking app. I'm not even sure the bank understand this requirement exists.

What does it mean for a country to not survive? There will be people there. There will be a system of governance. Sure, there will be hardship and suffering, but I don't see how this equates to extinction.

Yes, probably not people extinction. But economic extinction - the tiny amount of young supporting 10x the amount of elderly will lead to economic collapse. On top of the collapse in raw productivity. It’s not hard to imagine that level of disruption leading to a failed state scenario.

If it's so infrequent why do they need to offshore it?

Infrequent things happen all the time at scale?

Their scale is like 2000 cars…

They're scaling exponentially, so they have to plan operations accordingly.

A. ML engineers don't want to do it B. Phillipine labellers are way cheaper C. All of the above

Time zone coverage would be an obvious reason to have overseas teams.

Because it's cheaper, duh

You should probably invest in your education so.

So roughly half the the annual budget of ICE?

But they do?

You're not alone. I find it pretty dull, manipulative and schmaltzy.

This is the great thing about art, there's no objective measurement, people are free to disagree and like what they like.

This pattern is repeated down through the entire history of film. The problem isn't the films its you getting older.

I wouldn't even rate pulp fiction highly on Tarantino's filmography. I tried watching it recently and found it to be incredibly pretentious and overwritten.

It's quintessential-Tarantino, but I don't ever recommend it anymore (start with Django or Reservoir Dogs). Decades ago I shared this movie with college friends — mostly because we enjoyed decadence.

If you've not seen Pulp Fiction by 2026 [0], how can I safely recommend you submit yourself to hours of semi-disconnected robberies, rapes, and deceit? It's a great movie, EEAaO is just better storytelling.

[0] similarly, how does one recommend the acclaimed Deliverance without blushing?

Funnily enough I deeply dislike Django too and think Reservoir Dogs is good but extremely raw and unrefined.

My favourites of his are probably Once upon a time, Jackie Brown and Deathproof, with an honourable mention for Basterds.

=D

Django has low re-watchability (unlike most of Tarantino's work) but incredible acting/twists/cinematography.

Once Upon a Time is too much for me (bottom-tier Tarantino IMHO), but it does have many great actors/scenes (the overall storyline/premise is what I didn't care for).

Haven't seen Deathproof, but Basterds is wonderful storytelling.

Yeah I think Basterds is probably the most undeniably great, even if it's not my favourite. He even calls his shot with the last spoken line being “i think this might be my masterpiece”.

Probably my favourite thing about cinema is how slippery the subjective experience is.

For example I can appreciate a movie I don't really enjoy in a way I can't with music. Also on a rewatch a movie can go from hated to loved, or vice versa, in a way that feels unique to the medium.

>Yeah I think Basterds is probably the most undeniably great [Tarantino film], even if it's not my favourite.

Well-said.

>...on a rewatch [it] can go from hated to loved

I typically don't rewatch movies for at least five years — this is enough time for life experiences to change media interpretations. Yet I listen to the same tracklist of catchy MP3 earworms, on repeat.

Songs are motivational background energy (for me), and skipping a track isn't nearly as hard as bailing out of two hours invested in a cozy full-length film.

This website is one of the biggest culprits

Care to elaborate?

I have showdead set to yes, and while so some articles get a gray color and an occasional [flagged] tag, everything is still searchable[0]. The only form of censorship is the ordering in the news list, but I could pick any other list[1] if I wanted to.

This thread will immediately disappear off the front page once some Americans wake up.

FYI [flagged] articles are still present on the front[0] list. I'd suggest you check out the active[1] or the newest[2] list instead.

And how many people do you think use these 3 lnks compared to the base URL? That's the clever little ways to censor. You don't need everyone to be unaware, just as many as possible.

That's why I tend to search top in the last day and week. Specifically to catch flagged articles like this, since at least the votes don't get undone.

Please, the topic in question is whether HN "is one of the biggest culprits" in "adopting Chinese censorship methods". Granted, I'm far from being knowledgeable in Chinese censorship methods, but I doubt they can be circumvented by just using different URIs.

I don't agree with that because HN is a relatively small site. But the methods used here aren't dissimilar to what is happening in this story nor in China. Burying stories is a big part of censorship while minimizing dissent.

There we go, it is flagged.

...so what? "Most stories about politics" are considered Off-Topic, as per the guidelines[0], and some members favor the flag- over the hide-button more than I'd like. It's still on place 19 on the active list[1], and a far cry from any practiced censorship like on Reddit, where stuff just gets [deleted] out of existence.

People flag stuff. I don't think it results in removal automatically though it probably downgrades it as a story.

Some may regard this as off topic, but censorship seems to be a recurring subject and regularly discussed.

Yes. When it is complaint about some leftist student protesting and thus interfering with far right speaker free speech rigth to never be opposed, regualarly discussed. Rarely flagged.

But, when there is something making current admin or far right lool bad, flagged quickly

Not sure if HN monitors brigading.

No kidding
