No account at Coinbase or any other online exchange is required to own bitcoin. In fact, to have someone else hold your money is against the spirit of Bitcoin.

Everyone is their own bank. All you need is a Bitcoin wallet and I recommend exactly that app, Bitcoin Wallet: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach....

There are many others as well. BitPay has a user-friendly one called Copay: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bitpay.cop...

You still have to get some bitcoin somehow, though, which like GP says may not feel that much different to the average user than pre loading funds into a Flattr account.

Recommending Bitcoin wallet over mycelium? How come? Mycelium is fantastic.

I like their branding. Really like it. More personal, less of a corporate feel. I hope they don't change a thing.

And Esperanto can act as linguistic neutral grounds for people of all languages.

Exactly. .. and can be neutral ground even for software :D

My comments on HN get shadowbanned for no discernable reason. Does that count?

HN has shadowban?

Sort of. There is a mechanism to "kill" a user's posts; these are posts that get flagged "[dead]". A logged-in user with showdead checked in their profile can still see them, though. In fact, as of several months ago users can "vouch" for dead posts that should not be dead.

Comments are shadowbanned too. Just log off on your account and then check your comments and submissions. Are they still all there?

There is a game for rejection that's definitely worth checking out: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1754790

I tried to like Asana. I gave it several tries over the years, but the UI is so uninspired it seemed to drain my creativity. It looks polished though.

They launched a new UI a few months ago, complete with flying unicorns and rainbows (seriously).

I tried it. It didn't do anything for me, but to each his own.

My friend had several organs replaced, including his kidneys and pancreas (elective surgery). In each case, the organ donor was a recently deceased motorcyclist.

Bikers get to look cool and have fun, plus be a great source of organs. It's a win-win!

This is a wonderful idea, but sanitation and health rights goes hand-in-hand with civic duty to where one lives and works. It's not just the responsibility of governments to keep an environment safe and clean. Citizens must do their part, such as minimize their ecological footprint, pick up litter in their communities, be a good neighbour and so on.

A sense of civic duty seems to be amiss nowadays. Just look at the streets strewn with litter, or the runaway urban sprawl by rich land developers who have no regard for natural habitats.

We can't just throw money at the problem. That's not sustainable. People need to be educated to take responsibility for their surroundings.

We all have an impact on the environment. We all have a say. It is our world.

This may be true on some poetic level, but helps little the Indian kid who has to urinate somewhere.

I'll reword my comment since you seemed to miss the point: Civic duty goes hand-in-hand with sanitation and health rights. Otherwise, it is unsustainable, even counter-productive to provide toilets for an Indian population that will not use them or maintain them.

We also value the civic engagement component of our work! We've seen the members of the communities where we work to be highly motivated to advocate for themselves to get their local representatives to build the toilets as promised in Swachh Bharat.

I love your optimism and motivation to make life better for others. You are a true leader and an inspiration!

Love the idea, but can't this be gamed by using synthetic pheromones? Pheromone colognes for the purpose of attracting women have been available for awhile now.

I too grew up with a subscription to Popular Science. I was under the impression that those were a scam though.

I'm sure a few products out there are scams, but speaking from my own experience/anecdotes I think the real ones do actually work. Specifically the products containing androstenone, androsterone, and the other related endogenous steroid hormones.

I used some (from Amazon, forget the brand) on my neck and my wife literally would not stop hugging me and telling me how great I smelled. She's actually initiated sex a few times after I've applied it.

I'm not to proud to admit that this could solve a significant pain point for me and my wife. If you would be kind enough to look through your amazon history and post a link, I would be tremendously grateful.

Yes but it would be like wearing a deer suit to attract a deer when you're a human. You want someone who matches you and is naturally attracted to you, not someone who doesn't like your smell.
