i'm sort of done with apple products for awhile. aside from apple silicon, the quality of hardware and software decisions seems to have been consistently dropping for quite some time. i regret buying the new iphone. i regret buying the new air pods. i don't regret buying a mac mini recently, but only because it's got an apple silicon processor.
I mean, doesn't that fall out of pricing externalities sort of naturally? What's the difference if you're told all new cars cost $500k, vs being told not to buy a new car? You can't reasonably afford it either way.
Yes, prices would limit consumption of stuff that has externalities priced in, but also push producers to reduce their externalities, if they're littering the world with poisons etc. It's not $500K, but something reasonable like $5K (for cars) which reduces demand.
I'm literally about to stop using the internet and go back to using cash for everything. These people can promptly (and sharply) go fuck themselves. so sick of mankind turning into a farm of the have-nots for the haves to profit off of.
And I'm sick of being strapped to a population of have-nots that are too fuck-dumb to do anything about it.
On iOS, there are four little white corners beneath my keyboard when im typing on HN. Because HW & SW didnt coordinate on the size of the keyboard rounding vs the new iPhone 17.
Just so, so sloppy. I'm supposed to trust a multi trillion dollar company with my privacy?
A few weeks ago I was thinking about starting https://theghostofsteve.com, where users can come and post their experiences about about Apple devices in 2026. Users would like/dislike with "its genius" or "its shit".
The assumption being that the majority of reactions would be "its shit."
genuinely would suggest you start meditating. stepping outside yourself can be profoundly impactful. seeing the feelings you are having, and just acknowledging that those feelings exist and giving them a name minimizes their importance. "that was fear, that was emptiness, that was resentment, that was joy." it can be grounding to realize that your emotions and thoughts are technically just suggestions dropping out of a stochastic pattern matcher.
im not going to explain the entirety of meditatiob, but i would suggest you go to a local buddhist temple and ask for suggested reading material on how to get started.
my concern is that, if LLMs are replaced with petri dishes, we're actually enslaving conscious beings. We don't have any really good reason to believe FinFET silicon bares consciousness--we have a really good reason to believe brain tissue does bare consciousness, perhaps implicityly
