Laguna Games | Engineering | Remote, Bay Area | Full-Time
Laguna Games (https://laguna.games) is a rapidly growing video game development company. We recently launched our flagship game Crypto Unicorns (https://www.cryptounicorns.fun), which we built with Unity on the Polygon blockchain. We're a tight-knit company of ~80 across the globe who loves making fun, engaging games with exciting technology.
We're hiring for multiple positions, two being a Web Developer and Lead Blockchain Engineer:
We are NewClub Golf Society, a group of passionate golfers looking to help make the game as enjoyable as possible. We've built an app to help make booking clubs and tee times quick and easy from your mobile phone, and we're looking to hire a contract developer to help with our growing platform.
The main parts of our tech stack are React Native, Node.js, and MongoDB. We’re looking for ideally 10 hours per week of availability for the next few months, with potential for more in the future. We're happy to talk to anyone, but we're most interested in finding an additional React Native specialist to join our current small development team. Big plus if you have a keen eye for design and implementing pixel-perfect mockups.
If you or someone you know is interested, please have them reach out to matthew [at] newclub.golf and mark [at] newclub.golf.
A few years ago I started a small side-project (https://improvtonight.app) to help find shows at local improv theatres. I stopped updating it at the beginning of the pandemic, but have started brushing the dust off again. Along with in-person shows, I'd like to include an area for virtual shows, as I suspect those will continue to be produced at least in some capacity.
If anyone has any theatres or virtual shows they recommend adding, please let me know either here or via email (found in my profile).
One of my favorite virtual shows is by a team here in Chicago called Cigarette Sandwich (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/931265538). I think they've adapted really well to the virtual medium.

I think this is a great example of "scratch your own itch". Rarely are frustrations so specific that they don't impact multiple individuals. SEO aside, you're benefiting those who come after you asking the same questions.
About two years ago I started writing specific technical posts that I had to piece together from various sources. Although it's primarily for my own selfish reasons to reference later, I've seen quite a lot of traffic from folks who are trying to find the same solutions. Not too unsurprising, the key here seems to be the more niche a post, the better it performs compared to posts that cover broader topics.
> you're benefiting those who come after you asking the same questions
Thanks! The idea of just being helpful on the internet is vastly undervalued.
Since this specific tactic is about avoiding competition, it does pretty much always lead to something very niche, very new—either in content or the audience/approach to the content.
Larger topics are often worth going after or necessary for a larger site, but then you have more authority and more resources to do so.

When I've finally solved an annoying technical issue I've spent hours trying to fix, typically with web development, I like to write it down to save others the same pain:
